Yes, we do. We generally cover standard-spec electric, hybrid and plug-in hybrid vehicles under our existing State Car insurance policy wording (e.g. Toyota Prius, Nissan Leaf, Hyundai Ioniq, Mitsubishi Outlander and Tesla).^^
No, there is no difference in cover for EVs and petrol cars. With State Car Comprehensive Insurance, you get the same benefits, so your EV, hybrid or PHEV would be covered for accidental loss or damage, fire, theft, and any other optional extras you purchase with your cover.^^
Yes. If you add our State Roadside Rescue additional cover to your car insurance, our Roadside Rescue team can assist with EV, hybrid and PHEV breakdowns. State Roadside Rescue is available to purchase with our Car Comprehensive, Third Party Fire & Theft, or Third Party Only cover.
The charger/charging cable that comes with your car from the manufacturer is covered for sudden and accidental loss or damage under our Car Comprehensive Insurance policy or for sudden and accidental loss or damage caused by fire, theft and some natural disasters if you have Third Party, Fire & Theft cover. Please read the full details of cover in the State Car Insurance policy wording.
If you choose to install a charging station in your home, it wouldn't be covered under your car insurance. However, it is covered under a State Home Comprehensive Insurance policy, if permanently wired in by an electrician.
If you have Car Comprehensive or Third Party, Fire and Theft cover, it's important that the sum insured for your EV car is enough to replace your car without the rebate being applied. This is because the sum insured is the most we'll pay for a total loss claim and if you needed to replace your vehicle after an accident or theft, the current Clean Car Discount may not be available.
It depends. State doesn't cover loss or damage to your EV battery which is due to mechanical, electronic or electrical issues or those arising from general wear and tear or gradual deterioration. If you've taken out Car Comprehensive cover, then you are covered for sudden and accidental physical loss or physical damage to your EV battery. If you have Third Party, Fire & Theft cover, then you are covered for sudden and accidental physical loss or physical damage to your EV battery caused by fire, theft and some natural disaster perils+. Please read the full details of cover in the State Car Insurance policy wording.
Your policy doesn't cover you for a breakdown (except to the extent that cover is provided under the 'Mechanical or electrical breakdown' exclusion), wear and tear or gradual deterioration.
Yes, we do. State treats electric motorcycles the same as equivalent petrol-powered motorbikes and these can be covered under our Motorcycle Insurance policy. With our Motorcycle Comprehensive Cover, your electric motorcycle would be covered for sudden and accidental loss or damage, including fire and theft.
* Discounts apply to the company premium before optional extensions, levies, fees and GST are factored in. If you get two or more discounts, we may choose to apply each discount one after another. A minimum premium may apply. Accordingly, even though your policy may qualify for one or more discounts, the total of these discounts cannot cause your premium to be less than the minimum premium.
Save $50 on comprehensive, $25 on third party, fire and theft, or $10 on third party only car insurance online. Discount applies to first year's premium. The offer may change or end at any time. Terms and conditions apply.
**If you have car comprehensive cover, third party, fire & theft cover, or third party only cover, we will pay the reasonable cost to replace
a child's car seat or baby capsule if we accept a claim for loss or damage to your car, provided that in the event giving rise to the claim:
- There is loss or damage to the child car seat or baby capsule in or on the insured car, or
- In our opinion the safety of a child car seat or baby capsule in or on the insured car is compromised.

Please see 'Exclusions that apply to the whole policy' on page 9, 'Policy conditions' on page 10 of the Policy wording and the Policy Schedule.
+ Our policy's definition of natural disaster is an earthquake, natural landslip, volcanic eruption, hydrothermal activity, tsunami or natural disaster fire (as defined in the Earthquake Commission Act 1993). Flood and storms, for example, are excluded.
^^ Provision of cover is subject to underwriting approval. Terms, conditions, and exclusions apply and different excesses may apply. Please check the policy wording and your policy schedule for details of cover.
