Can I change my excess?

Yes, you can adjust your policy excess where this option is available.

Please note, however, that most car policies have fixed excesses. To find out whether your excess can be adjusted, please email us.

Do I get Flybuys points on my State policies?

You can collect Flybuys points if you’re a Flybuys member and have given us your Flybuys number.

How do I make a claim?

If you need to make a claim on your personal motor vehicle, home or contents policies, you can do this online. For all other policy types, please call us on 0800 80 24 24.

How can I pay my premiums?

You can pay your premiums online, as a bill payment by phone or internet, by credit card over the phone, by direct debit or in person at your nearest New Zealand Post. View full answer

Do I get a discount if I have an existing car policy (i.e. now have two cars)?

To be eligible for our multi-policy discount, you’ll need to have your contents insured with State plus one other qualifying policy. We’ll apply this discount to every policy that qualifies for it. View full answer

If I have car insurance with State, am I covered for windscreen damage?

Cover for windscreen damage can be added to all car policies, including, comprehensive, third party, fire and theft and third party only policies. When you add the windscreen extension cover to your policy, you can claim for any accidental damage to your windscreen, windows, sunroof, and driving lights without having to pay an excess.

Do I have to list everyone who drives my vehicle?

We recommend that you name any driver who’s under 25, or is likely to drive your vehicle on a regular basis. In the event of an accident, young drivers who aren’t named on your policy will pay a higher excess than those who are. View full answer
